Night Manager

YHA York 42 Water End, Clifton, York, North Yorkshire, YO30 6LP

Contract Type: Permanent, flexible contract
Hours: Minimum 25 hours per week
Pay: £13.63 per hour

About the Role

YHA York is looking for a Night Manager who doesn’t just run shifts — but helps shape the experience for guests and the team alike. You’ll work closely with the Hostel Manager and Deputy Manager to keep the hostel running smoothly day-to-day, while also being a visible, hands-on leader to our nights team. One moment, you could be supporting a team member; the next, welcoming guests to our warm and vibrant hostel, solving a problem, or ensuring our standards are at their best. No two days are ever the same – and that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding.

Your role will ensure the safety and security of all of our guests and property overnight, whilst delivering exceptional customer service. As a leader and manager, you’ll inspire your team through excellent customer care, ensuring every guest feels welcome and valued, and identifying opportunities to continually improve the guest experience. You’ll manage the security of the hostel overnight, ensuring the safety of all customers and overnight guests and that noise and disruption within the hostel and grounds is kept to a minimum. This role also includes additional project management responsibilities, including the rollout of our overnight food and beverage offer.

Location

Situated on the leafy bank of the River Ouse, YHA York is a stone’s throw away from York’s quirky and historic city centre to one side and the gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside on the other. York is the perfect place for history, art and nature lovers alike.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
