Mobile Driver Trainer – Night Shift
Who Are We
THIS IS A NIGHT WORKING ROLE (18:00pm to 07:00am).
Location: Camberwell (with travel across Go-Ahead London garages)
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent Full Time
Go-Ahead London is the capital’s largest bus operator, employing over 8,000 colleagues and operating a quarter of London’s iconic red bus network on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).
We are seeking a Mobile Driver Trainer to support the safe, compliant, and effective operation of shunting activities across our garages. This is a specialist, part-time role with the Driver Training Academy at Camberwell, providing targeted training, performance oversight, and post-incident support.
About The Role
The Mobile Driver Trainer ensures shunters operate safely, competently, and in line with company and legal standards within the garage environment. You will:
- Review operational performance
- Identify training needs
- Deliver planned and reactive training interventions
Your role is critical in maintaining safety standards, reducing incidents, and supporting continuous improvement in Asset Presentation and Driver Academy operations.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development
- Deliver initial, refresher and remedial training for shunters/drivers
- Conduct practical and theoretical assessments to confirm competence
- Support new shunter/driver onboarding
- Develop/maintain training materials aligning with Driver Academy standards

Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Review nightly shunting operations and produce clear performance reports
- Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Recommend targeted training interventions based on data
Incident Response & Remedial Training
- Attend garages post-incidents/accidents for investigations
- Deliver targeted retraining and document findings
- Provide feedback to prevent recurrence
Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure all training aligns with Health & Safety, environmental, and operational procedures
- Promote safe vehicle manoeuvring and garage protocol adherence
- Collaborate closely with Site Managers, Allocators, Engineering, Cleaning teams, and the Driver Academy
What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will be:
- Calm, credible, and confident in a live garage environment
- Able to coach, assess, and influence others
Essential Requirements
✔ Full UK PCV driving licence ✔ Proven experience as a Shunter/Driver in transport/logistics ✔ Experience delivering training and conducting assessments ✔ Strong Health & Safety/risk management understanding ✔ Clear communication, interpersonal skills, and collaboration aptitude ✔ Analytical ability to implement improvement actions

Desirable Qualifications/Attributes
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexibility for evenings/weekend work where operational needs require
Working Pattern & Location
- Full-time, based with the Driver Training Team in Camberwell
- Regular travel across Go-Ahead London garages
- Flexible response to operational demands
