Night Porter Role – Palé Hall
Company Description
Palé Hall is one of the UK’s leading Five Red Star country house hotels, offering luxury and culinary indulgence in the stunning backdrop of Snowdonia National Park. This historic Victorian mansion features:
- Eighteen bedrooms and suites
- Four charming garden suites

The Role
We are strengthening our Nights team and are looking for an experienced Night Porter to work a varied rota—typically three to four shifts per week, including bank holidays and weekends. The primary shifts are 10pm – 7am.
This role is crucial in maintaining:
- The safety and security of the building
- The comfort and needs of guests during late-night hours
Key responsibilities include:
- Full training will be provided, with a preference given to candidates with a security background.
- Reliability, vigilance, initiative, and confidence are essential—this role requires swift and effective responses to any overnight issues.
Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK, with the ability to commute reliably within the shift pattern.

Job Description
Core Duties
The Night Porter must provide an alert and vigilant presence overnight with a touch of discretion and professionalism.
Housekeeping & Guest Safety
- Maintain a detailed count of all guests, staff, and visitors in the house for evacuation purposes.
- Take a thorough handover from the late receptionist and Duty Manager on shift start, ensuring full awareness of pending requirements.
- Provide a shift conclusion handover to the early receptionist, advising on:
- Wake-up calls
- Room servicing needs
- Obtained guest feedback
- Reported issues or concerns
Guest Services
- Welcome guests arriving late at night, assisting with:
- Luggage handling
- Valet parking for cars
- Ensuring their immediate comfort
- Answer internal and external requests via the main switchboard or a designated night porter’s mobile phone.
- Fulfill Room Service orders from the night menu, ensuring:
- Full familiarity with dish components and presentation.
- Knowledge of kitchen ingredient storage locations.
Security & Patrols
- Conduct regular internal security patrols, ensuring:
- Doors and windows are secured/locked at appropriate points.
- Open areas (e.g., lobes) are tidy and closed safely, including:
- Switching off lights.
- Dampening down fires.
- Locking doors.
- Monitor the operation of open fires, ensuring:
- Full extinguishing each morning.
- Grates are cleared and fires re-laid with fresh kindling/logs.
- Check empty bedrooms for:
- Lights being off.
- Securely closed windows.

Technical & Safety Operations
- Be fully familiar with and competent in using fire alarm control panels, including:
- Reading displays.
- Locating activated detector heads.
- Silencing/re-setting alarms as required.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Perform cleaning duties as outlined in the key tasks sheet.
- Scan lounge areas during guest occupancy, ensuring:
- Tables are cleared promptly.
- Surfaces are polished.
- Cushions are repositioned.
Requirements
