Job Description
Job Title: Night Shift Engineering
Job Objective (Purpose):
The Night Shift Engineer will implement strategic operational goals to exceed customer expectations for product quality, cost, and delivery, maximizing efficiency, optimizing production levels, and driving operational excellence. Through tactical responsibility for the engineering function, the job holder will lead maintenance of buildings and maximize efficiency and output through preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, contractor management, supplier management, and budgetary/cost reporting.
This is achieved by:
- Managing high-performing partnerships
- An open dialogue with both clients and production partners
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities (Job Duties and Tasks)
People Management
- Engage with the operational team to ensure the current policies and procedures of the business are fully understood and implemented
- Develop a good work ethic among the operational staff, encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation
- Liaise and negotiate with customers and suppliers
- Respond to any management/customer/supplier queries quickly and effectively
- Comply with all food hygiene requirements and company procedures
- Comply with all health and safety requirements, following company policies and procedures
Administration
- Analyse data or information identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts
- Organise, plan, and prioritise work, developing specific goals and plans to accomplish work
- Record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic form

Engineering
- Set direction for function and contribute to formalising of site strategic and tactical goals
- Lead the preventative management programmes for facility and machinery during the night operation
- Undertake reactive maintenance with corrective action plan to reduce mean time for failure
- Contractor, supplier, and sourcing management to budgetary cost
- Working closely with Maintenance Manager on the Management of maintenance budget
- Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health & safety, food safety, and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
- Improve production and packing equipment effectiveness, driving increased machine reliability through optimized maintenance program
- Project manage new installs and refurbishments
- Assist in team projects and any other reasonable tasks
General
- This is an extremely fast-paced position within the company, and you will interact with most company departments.
- Working hours are 9pm to 6am Sunday to Thursday, and irregular hours will be influenced by problems needing instant action.
- You will be working in a temperature-controlled environment.
The following are expected from you:
- Possess technical knowledge and experience
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- Ability to lead and drive continuous improvement
- Strong customer service mindset
- Ability to understand cost containment and budgetary principles
- Analyzing logistical problems and producing new solutions
- Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job
- Participate in team projects

Personal Specification
- Good communication skills in English (interpersonal, listening, written, and oral) and a working knowledge of English
- Qualified Engineer in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, or Process Engineering
- 3 years of experience in a similar role, demonstrated track record preferably in an FMCG
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Good planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Experience of food hygiene and importance of good health and safety practice and procedures
- Good basic physical fitness for a physically demanding role
- Be trustworthy and reliable
- Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, e-mail, and the internet
- Ability to take accountability, make decisions, and work on own initiative without supervision
- A flexible approach to work to meet the needs of the business and the role
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of human relations skills, principles, and team-building processes
