About the Role
YHA York is looking for a Night Team Member to join our dynamic hostel team. In this role you will help shape the experience for guests and the team alike. With normal working hours on shifts between 6pm-3am and 10pm-7am, you will be part of a great team who work to ensure the safety and security of our site, offer amazing customer service at our reception and bar, learn end and beginning of day banking processes and maintain excellent standards. No two days are the same — and that’s exactly the point!
You will deliver excellent customer care to ensure all customers have a positive experience, seeking opportunities to improve our guest experience wherever possible. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
