Join Bevan Brittan – Construction Law Solicitor

About the Role

Join a team of nationally recognised experts in non-contentious construction law. Led by Andrew Tobin and Jonathan Turner, our market-leading construction team serves clients across the UK, specialising in:

  • Education: Schools and universities
  • Housing: Social housing and build-to-rent schemes
  • Health: NHS and private sector projects
  • Regeneration: Local authority and infrastructure work
  • Major programmes: Central government highways and programmes

You’ll gain experience in negotiating construction and engineering contracts, alongside related documentation, across diverse project types using industry-standard forms such as JCT and NEC, along with PPP supply chain contracts. We’re involved in major programmes like:

  • New hospitals, social housing
  • Schools and highway infrastructure

This role focuses on non-contentious construction law, offering flexibility to work from our regional offices:

  • Bristol
  • Birmingham
  • Leeds

Key Responsibilities

You’ll shoulder high-value, complex instructions, including:

  • Government departments and local authority capital projects
  • NHS Trusts
  • Housing associations

Recent work includes advising on:

  • City of London – Construction of the new Museum of London at Smithfield Market
  • Global healthcare manufacturer – New UK headquarters
  • Care home operators & developers – Various construction projects
  • Peabody Trust – Delivery of 11,500 new homes at Thamesmead
  • Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust – Modernisation of Leeds General Infirmary
  • Places for People/Balfour Beatty – 1,500 new homes near the Olympic Park
  • University of Oxford – Diverse construction portfolio

Requirements

We seek a Solicitor with experience for this role. The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

✅ 1–3 years’ PQE ✅ Strong drafting skills (aligned with experience level) ✅ Ability to:

  • Liaise effectively with clients
  • Engage in challenging work with career growth central to ambition ✅ Private practice or in-house experience, collaborative skills and ability to coordinate with:
  • Multidisciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, architects)
  • Experience supporting complex cases under trusted senior guidance ✅ Commercial pragmatism – Independently tackle issues while supplementing with senior input ✅ Networking collegiality – Interest in expanding business connections
