Electric Ireland is the primary customer-facing business unit of the ESB Group and the leading energy supplier in Ireland, serving c.1.4 million customers across the Republic and Northern Ireland, with an annual turnover of over €2bn. Our product offerings include electricity, gas, and energy home services.
The Role
The Northern Ireland Regulation Manager will manage the regulatory environment facing Electric Ireland in Northern Ireland while supporting the wider Electric Ireland regulatory team on an all-island basis. This role involves providing expert interpretation of market and policy regulations, assessing their impacts and opportunities, particularly within Northern Ireland.
You will lead specific projects and work activities driven by regulatory changes across the Electric Ireland business, engaging with Residential, Business, Operations, and Trading teams alongside the wider ESB Customer Solutions and ESB corporate teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate detailed policy proposals and draft formal responses to consultations issued by the Utility Regulator (UR) and government departments in Northern Ireland
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key bodies in Northern Ireland, including the UR, the Department for the Economy (DfE), and the Consumer Council NI
- Review regulatory and industry consultations, assessing their impact on the business
- Collaborate with the broader Electric Ireland regulatory team to coordinate the development of energy policy positions for ESB Customer Solutions, including the Electric Ireland business, liaising with key teams
- Support ESB Customer Solutions in implementing regulatory and industry rules efficiently, fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Represent ESB Customer Solutions, including Electric Ireland Northern Ireland, at industry forums
- Support regulatory and licence compliance within ESB Customer Solutions

Essential Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the energy or wider utilities industry across the island of Ireland, preferably with previous interaction with regulatory authorities and experience representing at industry fora
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and markets ESB operates in across the island of Ireland, as well as knowledge of government policies and European energy policy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly for drafting response documents to regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and government departments
- Strong analytical capability, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels, with strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, including presenting material to senior management and industry fora
Additional Information
Desirable Qualifications
- Business experience in the Northern Ireland energy retail sector would be advantageous
Location
The role is typically split between:
- Electric Ireland Belfast office at 1 Cromac Quay, The Gasworks, Belfast
- Electric Ireland Dublin office at Swift Square, Northwood, Santry
ESB promotes flexible working, with candidates eligible to work flexibly within their employment jurisdiction. Attendance in the office is required at least two days per week for collaboration. All smart working arrangements are subject to periodic review based on operational needs.

Salary
£57,600 to £72,000 per annum, depending on experience.
