Technical NPD Specialist – Packaging (LVMH / Glenmorangie & Ardbeg)

LVMH’s The Glenmorangie Company is crafts, distributes, and markets two of Scotland’s most acclaimed single malt whiskies: Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. Their prestige lies in Glenmorangie’s smooth, wood-infused innovation and Ardbeg’s iconic smoked character.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This critical NPD (New Product Development) position focuses on technical packaging leadership, ensuring all NPD projects – spanning primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging – are compliant, robust, sustainable, and brand-aligned. Reporting within the NPD team, the role requires close collaboration across technical, operational, quality, external suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver successful product launches. Responsibilities include:

  • Technical risk assessments
  • Packaging validation & testing programs
  • Trialling & launch readiness
  • Artworks & technical documentation approvals
  • Regulatory & sustainability compliance tracking
  • Supplier management & first-run performance
  • Post-launch reviews & continuous improvement

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Development & Execution

  • Lead end-to-end technical development for NPD packaging projects
  • Conduct and validate structured testing plans for bottling-line performance
  • Approach external suppliers, converters, and bottlers with risk-minimised solutions
  • Trialling protocols for new materials, shapes, and sustainability innovations
  • Interpret & authorise technical drawings, specifications, packaging data
  • Oversee sustainability data (EPI score) for packaging lifecycle compliance

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Collaborate with Quality & Commercial teams to define supplier aesthetic standards
  • Work with Artwork & Design teams through approval cycles
  • Ensure all projects meet brand guidelines, regulatory, and sustainability requirements
  • Budget & supplier management (POs, invoices, sampling)
  • Post-launch reviews with corrective action implementation

Quality & Sustainability

  • Drive sustainability initiatives for packaging innovation
  • Track & report progress against environmental KPIs
  • Align to company governance & government regulations

PROFILE & REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills & experience

  • Extensive experience in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging development
  • Hands-on knowledge of regulatory & sustainability frameworks
  • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings & specifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
