Employment Law Solicitor (NQ–3 PQE)
Location: Chester
Salary: £46,000
We are working with a highly regarded, independent law firm seeking a Newly Qualified to 3 PQE Employment Law Solicitor to join their growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity to work directly alongside experienced Employment Partners from day one, advising on complex, high-value employment matters for a sophisticated client base more commonly associated with large national firms.
The role is ideal for someone who wants early responsibility, meaningful client exposure, and high-quality work, but within a supportive environment that avoids the unsustainable pressures often seen in larger city practices.
You will have the opportunity to take ownership of your own caseload, while benefiting from close partner-led support designed to accelerate your development and progression.
What you’ll be doing
- You will work across a broad mix of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including:
- Advising employers and senior individuals on complex employment issues
- Supporting partners on high-value, strategically important cases
- Managing your own caseload with appropriate supervision
- Working closely with partners on client strategy and delivery
- Contributing to business development and building your professional profile

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
