Role: Nuclear Technical Specialist
The Nuclear Technical Specialist is a key supporting role in GBE-N's Corporate Technical Function and its mission to drive momentum in the national new nuclear programme.
Key Activities
The Nuclear Technical Specialist will be required to support a range of varied activities. Typical activities may include:
- Undertaking research
- Developing responses to UK Government policy and statements
- Technology evaluations
- Supplier bid evaluations
- Working with and coordinating work by third parties
- Undertaking optioneering studies
- Developing a technical project set up playbook
- Developing AI applications
Role Details
This is a remote/hybrid role, the successful candidate will be expected to attend our Warrington office (Greater Manchester) a minimum of 1-2 days a week.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Undertake activities as requested by the CTO team.
- Collaborate across GBE-N to gather complex technical information, ensuring a complete understanding of relevant information.
- Analyse, review and translate technical data, requirements, designs, and specifications into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for a wide range of audiences from Board Level to individual contributors in each function.
- Participate in technical support of procurement activities including preparation of tender documentation and review of Supplier bids with values up to £100s of millions.
- Support the development and utilisation of tools to manage schedules and cost for activities valued up to £10s of millions.
- Develop and deliver training on various technical subjects to a wide range of audiences from Board Level to individual contributors in each function.
- Adhere to quality management procedures
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance templates, and improve overall quality.
- To demonstrate a delivery-focused mindset that is able to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- A strong understanding of technical concepts, principles, and terminology relevant to the Civil nuclear industry.
- Familiarity with the nuclear industry including the roles of key participants, regulatory framework and standards.
- Knowledge of reactor technologies including Small Modular Reactors, Gen IV reactors and advanced nuclear technologies.
- Knowledge of nuclear fuel types, fuel manufacturing facilities and the fuel cycle.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Requirements.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear, accurate and accessible manner.
- Familiarity with technical documentation tools and software including the preparation of reports and presentations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, senior management and government officials.
- Ability to transition flexibly between a range of tasks.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering or Science subject.
