Oxford - Full-Time Permanent | Salary: £38,000-£42,000
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced hands-on engineer or technician eager to transition from shift work or site-based maintenance into a training and development role. This is an opportunity to leverage real-world engineering expertise and nurture the next generation of engineers across nuclear, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
Ideal candidates will have years of experience in a high-hazard, safety-critical engineering environment and are now ready to mentor, coach, and teach practical skills—and create trainers who themselves can cascade knowledge effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery & Apprentice Support

Deliver and support Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering apprenticeships, covering:
- Electrical principles & maintenance
- Mechanical systems & fault-finding
- Safe systems of work in high-risk environments
- Hands-on, workshop-based skills training

Coach and mentor apprentices in the workplace, supporting them throughout their program

Break down complex engineering knowledge into clear, practical learning plans

Foster confidence, competence, and professional behaviors among learners
Assessment & Progress Tracking
- Assess competence and monitor development against apprenticeship standards
- Conduct regular progress reviews with learners and their employers
- Guide apprentices through End Point Assessment (EPA) preparation

Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all training activities align with strict health, safety, and quality standards
- Promote safe working practices at all times in compliance with company regulations
Essential Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification at Level 3 in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Multi-Skilled)
- Proven hands-on technical background in an industrial or regulated environment
- Experience working in a safety-critical, structured workplace
- Natural ability to coach, mentor, or support others (formal or informal experience accepted)
- Willingness to pursue or hold:
- An Assessor qualification (A1 / CAVA or equivalent)
- (If applicable) a Teaching qualification (e.g., Level 3 Education & Training)
Desirable (But Not Mandatory)
- Background in nuclear, defence, power generation, or heavy industry
- Experience supporting/apprenticing junior engineers or recent trainees
- Strong understanding of health & safety, Risk Assessments (RAMS, or QA processes
- Qualifications in quality assurance, internal auditing, teaching/training (e.g., PTLLS/Level 3 EQA)
- Higher-level engineering qualification (Level 4+)
