Mental Health Nurse – Field-based Team Support Role

About the Role

Field-based working across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire supporting Milestones' Mental Health nursing registered services.

Do you want to make a positive difference in people’s lives? At Milestones, we are seeking a dedicated nursing professional to join our mental health nursing team.

We welcome applicants who are:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN)
  • Registered General Nurses (RGN) or Registered Nurse (Learning Disability – RNLD) with demonstrable mental health experience

Role Overview

Working within Mental Health Nursing services in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, you will provide high-level caregiver support to individuals with:

  • Severe and enduring mental health needs
  • Physical health comorbidities

This role may also involve flexible weekend work when required by service needs.


Key Responsibilities

Care Delivery & Communication

  • Provide holistic, individualised care to maximise independence and well-being.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability under pressure.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to tailor support to each person’s needs.
  • Travel across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire to deliver care.

Training & Development

  • Co-produce and deliver training (clinical or non-clinical) across the organisation.
  • Offer clinical supervision and practice assessment to:
    • Student Nursing Associates
    • Student Nurses

Team & Service Support

  • Work alongside specialist nursing teams to ensure effective interventions.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to staff.
  • Contribute to team resilience during challenging periods.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse status (preference for experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse, but open to RNLD or RGN with mental health experience)
  • Passion for highly individualised care
  • Proven capability in:
    • Teamworking
    • Effective communication
    • Clinical delegation
    • Capacity for self-motivated, flexible problem-solving
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience delivering training/didactic content
  • Experience working in mental health or multi-disciplinary teams
