About us
Princess Alice Hospice is a charity supporting people in life, death and grief. We’re dedicated to working closely with individuals, communities and organisations in the London Boroughs of Kingston and Richmond and large parts of Surrey, to ensure more people receive the support they need.
Here at Princess Alice, you’ll have the opportunity to make a satisfying, rewarding difference to the lives of our patients, their families and friends, and be supported every step of the way. We’re small enough for you to see the difference you make every day, and big enough to offer training, development and the support you need to grow in your role.
About our Night Response (NR) Team
Our Night Response Team plays a vital role in delivering urgent, specialist care in the community, supporting patients in their own homes as well as in care and residential settings, and ensuring access to vital care when it matters most.
The team provides on-call palliative nursing care between 22:00 and 08:00, seven days a week, supporting patients known to the hospice. This service enables patients to remain in the comfort of their own home, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and ensuring care is delivered in the right place, at the right time.
The team also see patients known to district nursing services who require care overnight outside the scope of palliative care. The team cover a large geographical patch, namely Surrey Downs and the London borough of Kingston Upon Thames.
About the role
Working as part of a small team of two each night - usually one Registered Nurse and a Senior Healthcare Assistant - you will be based in an office in the Hospice In-Patient Unit. The team receives calls and provides information, support and advice to patients, families and other healthcare professionals, alongside visiting patients as required throughout the night.
This is a role that offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to use your clinical judgement in complex and often changing situations. You will assess, plan and deliver care to patients with palliative and end-of-life needs, providing both hands-on support during visits and clinical advice via telephone. You will also play an important role in supporting patients and those close to them during challenging times, responding with sensitivity, confidence and compassion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
