Nursery Assistant
Salary: £25,185 – £25,989 pa (pro rata) Hours: 37 per week (term time only) Contract: Permanent Location: Little Owls Bramley (** Note:** Employs via Leeds City Council – may require relocation across all subsidiaries)

A day in your role
What you’ll do
You’ll deliver ** exceptional care and education** for children aged birth to five, ensuring their holistic development is supported according to the Early Years Foundation Stage. Your responsibilities include:
Core Duties:
- Provide a stimulating, inclusive learning environment aligned with:
- Ofsted’s Early Years Inspection Framework
- Relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board policies
- Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) frameworks
- Individual Education Programmes (IEPs) and the Early Support Programme
- Monitor children’s developmental milestones and contribute to progress reports (written in English).
- Maintain strict confidentiality and support school transitions for five-year-olds.
- Safeguard children’s physical, emotional and social well-being:
- Report accidents/injuries and adhere to incident reporting procedures.
- Detect and follow protocols for non-accidental injury.
- Administer medications accurately and securely (record-keeping required).
- Work collaboratively with parent carers, social workers, health visitors and primary schools.
- Lead educational visits, risk assessments and safe group evacuations.
- Assist student/ apprentice placements and share development reports.
- Uphold Leeds City Council values and anti-oppressive practises (ensure an inclusive environment).
- Strong commitment to professional development: participate in mandatory training.

Additional Duties:
- Organise play activities that foster creativity and curiosity.
- Able to adapt plans for children with special educational needs.

Qualifications & Skills
- Essential:
- Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in childcare.
- GCSE Maths + English (or equivalent)
(Check recognised equivalents on cwdc.org.uk)
- Current Paediatric First Aid certificate (must be obtained within 3 months).
- Useful assets:
- Degree in Childhood Studies / Foundation Degree (Early Years sector endorsements are preferred).
- Experience with Safeguarding Children’s training or child mental health support.
Experience
- Provable track record of working with children in settings like nurseries or childcare.
- Experienced in:
- Creating nuturing, safe spaces for diverse needs.
- Managing a dynamic balance of care (emotional, physical and spiritual).
- Collaborating in teams towards shared goals (e.g. performance reviews).
Personal Attributes
- Quick thinker: able to administer EDT, first aid or intervene in unexpected situations.
- Empathetic advisor: capable of professionally supporting parent carers.
- Adaptable and enthusiastic – you’ll juggle multiple small tasks with energy.
- Autonomy and organisation: managing reports, risk assessments and classroom roles.
- Encourages a culture of trust while maintaining team cohesion.
