Nursery Room Leader / Third in Charge

Location: Forest Row, East Sussex

Salary: GBP30,000 - GBP32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday - Friday

Are you an experienced Early Years Practitioner ready to step into leadership?

We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and qualified Nursery Room Leader / Third in Charge to join the senior team at our beautiful, highly-regarded nursery in Forest Row.

This role is the perfect stepping stone for a Senior Practitioner or Room Leader looking to develop their management skills. You will enjoy the best of both worlds: leading a thriving room of your own while stepping up to support the wider nursery operations in the absence of the Manager and Deputy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and Mentor: Oversee your designated room, mentor junior staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, creative EYFS activities.
  • Step Up to Lead: Act as the Third in Charge, assisting with daily operations, compliance, opening/closing duties, and taking charge of the nursery when required.
  • Parent Partnerships: Foster strong, collaborative, and trusting relationships with parents and carers.
  • Safety First: Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.

What We Need From You (Requirements)

  • Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years/Childcare (NNEB, CACHE, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Proven experience working as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or Nursery Nurse looking to step up.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of the EYFS curriculum, child development, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Leadership: Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and lead a small team.
