Nursery Room Leader / Room Manager
Location: Little Elms Daycare Nursery, Shirley Department: Little Elms Lee Compensation: £32,000 – £33,000 per year (Standards base pay is up to £28,500 for full-time (40 hours/week) on 4 or 5 days per week from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.)
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Nursery Room Leader/Manager to join our Shirley Nursery, where we provide state-of-the-art facilities—bright, spacious indoor rooms paired with fantastic outdoor play areas.

Requirements
To apply for this role, you must:
- Have at least 1 year’s experience as a Nursery Room Leader or equivalent.
- Hold Level 3 qualification (or above) in Early Years childcare.
- Have excellent knowledge of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and statutory framework.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Show independence and initiative in your work.
- Bring passion for childcare, visible in daily interactions with children.

Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, support, and motivate the room team to ensure high-quality care and education. -Delegate tasks effectively, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure staff rely on their duties. -Provide coaching, feedback, and mentoring to develop team skills. -Organise rotas, breaks, and room duties to maintain confident staff-child ratios.
2. Child Development & Learning
- Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate learning activities (aligned with EYFS).
- Observe, assess, and record children’s development accurately.
- Support key person roles in maintaining observations, progress tracking, and learning journals.
- Adapt activities to accommodate individual needs, including those with SEND.
3. Safeguarding & Welfare
- Ensure a safe and secure environment while following safeguarding policies.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and report them to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Carry out regular risk assessments for indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Meet children’s personal care needs (toileting, feeding, hygiene) professionally.

4. Communication & Partnerships
- Build strong relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Communicate daily about child welfare, progress, and activities.
- Collaborate with external agencies (SENCOs, health visitors) when necessary.
5. Room Organisation & Environment
- Maintain a stimulating, clean, and engaging indoor room.
- Oversee resource management, ensuring equipment is safe, clean, and age-appropriate.
- Set up purposeful learning zones and adjust activities regularly.
- Manage housekeeping (cleaning, displays, storage).
6. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and regulations are followed.
- Complete and verify accident forms, medication records, and attendance logs.
- Support ofsted inspections and internal audits with up-to-date documentation.
7. Behaviour Guidance
- Model positive behaviour management techniques for staff. -Help children develop social skills, emotional control, and independence.
- Handle challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
8. Professional Development
- Attend training and team meetings to stay current.
- Identify and promote staff training needs.
- Encourage reflection and continuous improvement in room practices.
