Nursing and Midwifery Practice Educator

On 1 April 2026, NSS and NES became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

Flexible Location:

PSD Scotland is a remote-friendly employer with staff based throughout Scotland. We support office-based and hybrid working arrangements. We welcome conversations about alternative working patterns—please get in touch during the application process to discuss.

Work Pattern:

Permanent, Part Time, 14.4 hours per week (14 hours and 24 minutes)

You must have eligibility and entitlement to work in the UK which is required to be maintained throughout your period of employment.

Who We Are

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) Directorate works to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplain and healthcare support workers. The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy drivers.

The Opportunity

The Nursing and Midwifery Practice Educator post is an integral role within NHS Scotland’s practice education infrastructure.

This role will ensure access to learning and development resources directly relevant to clinical care closer to where nurses and midwife’s practice. The post holder will be employed by Public Service Deliver Scotland and will be hosted within NHS Borders and will cover other boards within the South region as required. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated nurse or midwife educator to provide visible and sustainable educational leadership, working collaboratively across Public Service Delivery Scotland and the South region of Scotland. A key outcome for the role is to support the education and development of nurses and midwives across the career framework, particularly focussing on levels 5 and 6 practitioners in care giving roles. As a Practice Educator you will have access to the national network and regional support from your manager and peers.

  • A registered nurse or midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Expertise related to education is a requirement for this post, therefore experience within an education, teaching or facilitation role

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and flexibly and to build networks and communities of practice
  • Highly effective communicator knowing how to make complex information and language simple for a diverse range of stakeholders
