Fraser Health is looking for Nursing Unit Clerks to support our clinical teams at Burnaby Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, and Ridge Meadows Hospital through casual opportunities.
As a Nursing Unit Clerk, you are often the first point of contact for patients, families, physicians, and staff. Your ability to manage unit communications, maintain records, and support daily operations plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care.

What You'll Do
Under direct supervision, you will:
- Maintain patient and unit records accurately and confidentially
- Perform reception and communication duties for the nursing unit
- Coordinate calls and relay information to healthcare professionals
- Prepare and process documentation, reports, and forms
- Monitor and maintain unit supply levels
- Support the smooth daily operation of the patient care unit
- Assist staff, patients, and visitors with professionalism and compassion
What We're Looking For
To qualify, you have:
- Grade 12 graduation
- Completion of a recognized Unit Clerk Training Course
- One (1) year of recent related experience
OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Detailed Overview
Under direct supervision maintains unit records and supply levels; performs reception and clerical duties related to the operation of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Transcribes physicians orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing as required.
- Schedules patient activities such as diagnostic procedures, appointments or transportation by contacting appropriate departments, physicians offices or outside agencies and maintaining related records.
- Maintains patient records according to established procedures by setting up charts, adding or removing forms, and forwarding discharged patient records to Health Records Department.
- Performs reception duties such as greeting and directing visitors, answering the telephone, taking messages, answering routine inquiries or referring as appropriate; opening and distributing mail as required.
- Maintains unit stationary and supply levels by monitoring stock, preparing stores orders, requisitions or stationary orders, completes equipment repair or maintenance orders as directed.
- Orients new staff and students to unit by demonstrating procedures, answering questions and explaining unit organization and layout.
- Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing and photocopying.
- As required by the department, maintains timekeeping and other staff related records by coding and entering hours to timecards, transcribing rotation hours by copying information onto required forms and/or entering into the computer, according to established procedures. Forwards timesheets, staffing information to staffing/appropriate department.
- As required by the department, maintains relief staff call in list information such as name, telephone number and work availability; contacting staff to fill vacancies as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 graduation, completion of the Unit Clerk training course plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to type 40wpm.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment such as personal computers and meditech terminals.
