North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU)

The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit is a multi-agency collaboration dedicated to tackling serious and organised crime across Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and North Wales.


About the Role

The NWROCU is now recruiting for an Economic Intelligence Development Officer within the Regional Economic Crime Team.

This pivotal role focuses on:

  • Identifying, developing, and exploiting financial intelligence, particularly Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
  • Supporting intelligence-led policing to disrupt serious and organised crime in the North West region
  • Filling intelligence gaps related to threat, harm, and risk
  • Producing high-quality intelligence products to guide operational decision-making and enforcement

The successful candidate will work with national capabilities and local policing to protect communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively assess SARs and other financial intelligence to develop actionable insights
  • Continuously identify intelligence gaps and propose mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with multi-agency partners (National Crime Agency, Financial institutions, law enforcement) to gather and analyse intelligence
  • Support enforcement activities, ensuring intelligence inform investigations and prosecutions
  • Maintain and uphold Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO) accreditation
  • Comply with security vetting requirements (NCA Clearance, Management Vetting (MV), Security Clearance) before appointment

Essential Requirements

✅ Relevant professional background in financial crime, intelligence analysis, or law enforcement ✅ Commitment to obtaining and maintaining Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO) accreditation ✅ Security clearance ready (NCA Clearance, MV, SC) within required timescales ✅ Willingness to complete continuous professional development courses ✅ Highly disciplined and resilient, capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced environment ✅ Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience in SAR writing, financial crime investigations, or offensive intelligence development would be highly desirable.


Person Specification

Employment Administration

  • Post Duration: Initial 2-year secondment, subject to funding/performance reviews
  • Grade/Duty: Merseyside Grade D
  • Salary Range: £30,333 – £32,613 per annum (full-time, flexitime work required)

Security Clearance Requirements

  • All applicants must undergo NCA Clearance, MV (Management Vetting), and SC (Security Clearance) prior to commencing

Additional Conditions

  • Candidates must be prepared for Officer Safety/First Aid training and ensure they hold valid certifications or are able to complete training before starting.
  • Travel allowance: Petrol/transit costs beyond applicant’s current commute will be reimbursed
