About the Role:
Applications are invited for the role of Senior Registrar, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, commencing from February 2027, for a 12-month period, with the possibility of extension. Applicants must be PGY 7+ to be eligible.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) division at North Canberra Hospital provides advanced exposure in both Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Urogynaecology. The hospital handles over 1,900 births per year, making it a major player in the region.
At Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, you will attend to a Level 6 tertiary referral centre, with approximately 3,700 births annually and a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This department supports patients from southern NSW and has over 200 Level 3 NICU admissions per year.
The Senior Registrar’s role includes:
- Supervising junior trainees and assisting staff.
- Handling rosters, education, and clinical governance components.
You may also be offered a one- to two-year position, depending on trainee requirements. This post is ideal for 5th and 6th year RANZCOG trainees. CHS is committed to aiding candidates in completing RANZCOG Advanced Training successfully.
For 5th-year trainees, the position is structured to support completion of RANZCOG Advanced Training Modules (ATMs) across 12 months, balancing obstetrics and gynaecology.
For 6th-year registrars, the position can be customised to meet your training and career interests, including:
- Advanced Gynaecological Surgery (including exposure to Gynaecological Oncology).
- Reproductive Endocrinology exposure.
- Generalist Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Unaccredited Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Senior Registrar role.
- Opportunities to complete a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU).
- Research and education-based roles.
The program focuses on preparing you for future consultant positions and offers:
- Senior-led clinics and theatre lists.
- Oversight of acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology services in a consultant-level capacity.

Applicants progressing into RANZCOG Advanced Training modules are warmly encouraged to apply.
The role may cover rotations between The Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital, with potential assignments such as:
- 12 months at The Canberra Hospital.
- 12 months at North Canberra Hospital (Bruce).
- 6 months at The Canberra Hospital / 6 months at North Canberra Hospital (Bruce).
Before commencement, candidates must:
- Complete a National Police Check.
- Comply with the Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment and Occupational Screening and Vaccination Policy.
