Job Title: Occasional Assistant Coach & Hockey Operations Coordinator

About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), except for Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).

Job Summary

Provides logistical support for the hockey program by managing travel, meals, lodging, practice times, ice rentals, and other related issues; coordinates all video needs and technical support for the program; assists hockey staff in coaching, practice planning, game strategy, opponent scouting through video analysis, and recruit evaluation.

Responsibilities

Coaching, Player Development, and Game Preparation

  • Actively assist the Head Coach in practice planning, skill development, and game planning through opponent scouting.
  • Participate in daily practice meetings by providing strategic insight, drills, and recommendations to support practice planning.
  • Develop teaching clips and skill-building drills and provide on-ice instruction to foster player growth and development.
  • Analyze opponents, provide video and strategic input, and assist in designing weekly practices and skill sessions that support team game plans and competitive objectives.

Video Analysis, Performance Technology, and Data Management

  • Serve as the primary video coordinator and database manager for the hockey program by recording, editing, archiving, and distributing video of games, practices, and recruits, as well as uploading game footage to league databases.
  • Manage and troubleshoot XOS software used to code team and individual performance data, while training coaching staff and student employees on software utilization and data analytics.
  • Manage contracts for software and services and oversee the purchase and maintenance of technical and video equipment necessary to support program operations.

Team Operations, Travel, and Student-Athlete Support

  • Coordinate all team travel logistics through the program's travel management vendor, including flights, hotels, meals, practice schedules, ground transportation, equipment and baggage arrangements, and travel itineraries.
  • Proactively resolve issues to ensure smooth and successful travel operations.
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches to oversee housing assignments for team members and work closely with campus housing staff and student-athletes to address accommodation needs and resolve housing-related concerns.

Budget Administration, Business Operations, and Fundraising

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and executing the annual golf outing fundraiser, collaborating with event organizers to ensure efficient coordination of all logistical details.
  • Assist in developing and managing payment schedules in partnership with the Business Office and ensure the timely processing of payments related to team operations and events.
  • Manage the hockey program budget in collaboration with the Director of Business Operations and Head Coach by reconciling expenses, monitoring expenditures, and providing recommendations for future zero-based budget planning.

Compliance, Contracts, and Administrative Oversight

  • Manage and maintain official program documentation, including National Letters of Intent (NLIs), game contracts, and other operational agreements.
  • Work closely with the Director of Compliance to ensure adherence to NCAA, NCHC, and institutional policies and regulations, and monitor weekly hour-tracking documentation to support compliance requirements for the hockey program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1 year of experience in a related field

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of combined experience playing and/or coaching men’s ice hockey at an elite level
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), XOS, Thundercloud, and video editing tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; ability to think critically and solve problems; good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion; excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
