Occupational Therapy Assistant

Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 per annum (pro rata for 18.5 Hours)

Contract: Permanent

Location: Leeds, Tech North area (LS7)


About the Opportunity

Do you want to be part of the Children’s Occupational Therapy Team in Leeds City Council’s Child Health and Disability Service? Leeds City Council is seeking an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to help reduce the barriers experienced by children and young people with disabilities within their homes. About the Role

This is a community-focused, hands-on role where you, under supervision from registered Occupational Therapists (OTs), will:

  • Conduct assessments of equipment and home adaptations to enhance independence for children and young people with disabilities.
  • Work within Leeds’ anti-discriminatory ethos, applying restorative practice to personalise support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessments & Interventions
    • Carry out assessments under supervision, focusing on independence, barriers to inclusion, and needs-based interventions.
    • Develop strength-based, occupation-focused plans, aligning with users’ placements.
    • Work in rehabilitation teams to improve confidence and skill-sets of children across the city.

  • Coordinated Services

    • Collaborate with Housing, Social Workers, and other Councillor services to dissolve inclusion barriers.
    • Handle specialised equipment delivery, fitting, and repairs, whilst managing complex moving/handling requirements.
    • Enter records into management systems, delivering concise, privacy-commited reports.
  • Safeguarding & Professional Leadership

    • Work within the safeguarding framework, promoting actions to protect children at risk.
    • Supervise visits from OT students, sharing professional knowledge.
    • Prioritise risks, ensuring timeliness and compliance within Council policies and frameworks.
