At Smith+Nephew, people are at the heart of everything we do. As our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Lead, you will play a vital role in supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our UK workforce, helping people return to work sooner, thrive at work and perform at their best. What will you be doing?
In this role, you will act as a trusted Occupational Health and Wellbeing partner to our UK businesses. Your days will be varied and impactful, from leading ill health case management and advising managers on complex health matters, to shaping proactive wellbeing initiatives that reduce absence and presenteeism. You will work closely with HR, HSE and site leadership to design risk based occupational health solutions, ensuring compliance while removing unnecessary barriers to productivity. Alongside this, you will deliver consultations, coordinate health screening programmes, manage first aid provision, develop and document occupational health related systems and contribute to projects that strengthen our occupational health strategy across the UK.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
