Occupational Health Technician - Part Time

About Us: Avara Foods

You may not have heard of Avara Foods, but there’s a good chance you’ve enjoyed our products. We are one of the UK’s leading food businesses, supplying chicken and turkey to major supermarkets and well-known restaurants.

A Little About Our Telford Site

Our advanced manufacturing site in Telford is one of our main processing facilities, capable of processing up to 1.5 million birds per week. Over 1,400 talented people work here, helping us deliver high-quality products to customers and establishing Avara Foods as a trusted leader in fresh foods.

Recently, we’ve invested £2.3 million in technology and equipment, making our Telford facility one of the most advanced food manufacturing sites in the UK.


About The Role

Occupational Health Technician – Hybrid Role

Our inclusive, forward-thinking business prides itself on investing in its people, and we are now looking for a highly competent and motivated Occupational Health Technician to join our team, based at our Telford site.

Key Details:

  • Primary location: Telford
  • Hours: 22.5 hours per week
  • Working days: Monday to Wednesday (typically from 08:00-16:30)
  • Flexibility needed: Twilight/Night shift (1-2 nights per month) to support teams across site.
  • Travel: Will be required to visit other Avara locations, which may involve overnight stays.

Responsibilities

As an Occupational Health Technician, your role will encompass:

  • Promoting employee health and wellbeing to ensure a positive and effective workplace environment.
  • Supporting health surveillance activities through:
    • Delivering, recording, analysing, and interpreting spirometry and audiometry testing.
    • Supporting fitness to work advice tailored to employees and businesses' needs.
    • Ensuring audits are always HSE compliant.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Gather insights on job roles and equipment within Avara, to apply appropriate surveillance testing techniques.
  • Conduct New Starter Assessments on:
    • Day 1 of employment,
    • Week 6,
    • Week 12,
    • Followed by continuous health surveillance in accordance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
  • Record and interpret results from occupational health surveillance.
  • Provide advice for fitness to work, ensuring decisions are in line with the needs of both the employee and the business.
  • Signpost employees to available company benefits that promote their health and welfare.
  • Maintain current records to ensure we remain ready for any audit requirements.
  • Deliver health and wellness programs, enhancing the entire workforce’s overall wellbeing.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, the following skills and experience are essential:

  • Experience in the clinical/health and wellbeing sector.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a vatantage due to our diverse workforce.
  • Experience managing or supporting teams effectively and professionally.
  • Strong ability to communicate at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Good IT literacy and the ability to use various software to excel in the position.
  • A full driving license, as travel between sites is often required.
