Fixed Term Occupational Therapist Role – 30 Hours Per Week

About the Role
Join The Spinney in Atherton, on a fixed-term contract (6–9 months) to cover maternity leave.
This is a part-time position (30 hours per week), working within medium and low secure services, providing specialist treatment programmes for service users detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) with history of offending behaviour.

Key Responsibilities
As an Occupational Therapist, you will:
- Provide comprehensive OT assessments
- Plan and review OT treatment programmes (under supervision)
- Identify and action referrals, including internal (support staff) and external (agencies) routes
- Support the planning, evaluation, and audit of clinical practices, pathways, and protocols at The Spinney
- Maintain professional, contemporaneous records (written and electronic), following service and organisational standards
- Facilitate evidence-based group and individual programmes for recovery-oriented rehabilitation
- Build strong therapeutic rapport with service users

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- A qualified Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- UK HCPC registration (or currently applying)
- Evidence of being able to research, plan, implement, and evaluate projects for specific groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Where You’ll Work
The Spinney offers a range of care settings for male patients with personality disorder and/or mental illness.
- Facilities include:
- Medium and low secure wards
- Rehabilitation units
- Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Location: Everest Road, Atherton, Manchester, M46 9NT (set within 11 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens)
The team is recognized by the Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) for excellence in positive behavioural reinforcement, preventing challenging behaviour, and effective secure care interventions.
