Occupational Therapist

Band 6 Occupational Therapist (Mental Health & Wellness Team) – Mellmead House, Redbridge

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team within the Mental Health and Wellness Team (MHWT) based at Mellmead House, Redbridge. The MHWT provides community mental health services, offering assessment, intervention, and recovery-focused support for adults.

As a key member of the team, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions, promoting:

  • Independence
  • Social inclusion
  • Meaningful engagement in daily life

Collaborating within a multidisciplinary and OT team pathway, you will contribute to:

  • Holistic care planning
  • Risk formulations
  • Evidence-based interventions

This role offers opportunities to develop specialist skills, including:

  • Contributing to a recovery-orientated service model

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality Occupational Therapy interventions.
  • Undertake comprehensive standardised assessments to co-produce meaningful goals and targeted interventions with service users.
  • Develop and co-facilitate group therapy programmes.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support effective service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with Trust policies.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings.
  • Support system flow and service user transitional pathways.
  • Act as a Practice Placement Educator for OT students and apprentices.
  • Engage in clinical effectiveness and service improvement activities, including:
    • Audit
    • Quality Improvement (QI)
    • Research and Development initiatives
  • Provide clinical supervision and coordinate junior staff, students, and trainees.

Induction Process

  • First Monday of each month start date.
  • Comprehensive induction (up to 2 weeks), including:
    • Mandatory training

Induction held at NELFT Head Office.

Probationary Period

  • All new starters (excluding internal applicants) will complete a probationary period.
    • Internal applicants (unless currently on probation or on bank staff) are exempt.

High Cost Area Supplement (HCA)

  • 15% of basic salary (minimum £4,714 – maximum £5,941 p.a.) for High Cost Area Supplement (applies in Redbridge, Havering, Waltham Forest, and Barking & Dagenham).
