Occupational Therapist - Specialist Children’s Services
Occupational Therapist (Paediatric Mental Health & Neurodevelopmental Support) – North CAMHS, Woodside Health & Care Centre

About the Role
We are seeking an Occupational Therapist (OT) with a special interest in working with young people (up to 18 years) experiencing mental health difficulties and neurodevelopmental conditions.
Key Details:
- Based at: Woodside Health & Care Centre
- Team: North CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
- Setting: Multi-disciplinary environment with ongoing service expansion
- Contract Type: Full-time, permanent (shift pattern to be confirmed)
- Support: Supervised by a Clinical Lead OT within a growing paediatric mental health team
Note: Whilst prior mental health or paediatric experience is desirable, we prioritise a strong motivation to work in this field and adaptability. Established OT services are available for collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Delivery:
- Manage a defined caseload, delivering occupational therapy assessments, interventions, and interventions (both individual and group-based).
- Work with children and young people (up to 18) with mental health and neurodevelopmental challenges.

Teamwork:
- Contribute effectively in a multi-disciplinary (MDT) and multi-agency environment, ensuring coordinated care.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals (psychologists, nurses, social workers, etc.).

Clinical Governance:
- Apply clinical reasoning to assess needs, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and evaluate outcomes.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and service data.

Development & Training:
- Support trainees (OT students, healthcare support workers) as needed.
- Engage in service improvement (e.g., training, audit, quality initiatives).

Communication:
- Explain complex information clearly and compassionately to young people, families, and professionals.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist (degree or diploma in OT).
- Familiarity with OT assessment tools and evidence-based practices in paediatric or mental health contexts.
- Understanding of child development, functional impact of neurodevelopmental/mental health issues.
Key Skills:
- Ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (relatable with children, families).
- Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
- Demonstrates flexibility to work independently or collaboratively within an MDT.
Induction: Comprehensive support (that includes OT and MDT training) will be provided.
