Occupational Therapy Assistant (2 Positions Available)
Full time (37 hours per week) and Permanent
Salary range will be £25,877.80 (includes UK real living wage) to £30,404 per annum

We are looking for 2 enthusiastic and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistants to join our Occupational Therapy team at Bron Afon.
This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with customers in their homes, carrying out assessments, recommending aids and adaptations, and helping people overcome barriers that affect their daily lives. You will play a vital role in enabling people to remain safe, independent and connected to their communities.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting disabled people and promoting independence.
- Experienced in working with individuals in community, health, housing or social care settings.
- A confident communicator who builds positive relationships with customers, families, carers and partner agencies.
- Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload.
- Comfortable working independently in the community while remaining a strong team player.
- Competent in using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.

Job Purpose
You will provide a high-quality service in relation to all aspects of Occupational Therapy, carrying out home assessments to identify limitations and challenges faced by those with disabilities and identifying solutions which enable wellbeing and independence.
You will be working alongside partners such as Torfaen County Borough Council, Homeseeker, Care and Repair and the NHS to inform of best practice, recommend safe solutions and contribute to the prevention of hospital admission and facilitation of hospital discharge.

You will support the delivery of a flexible adaptations service in line with Bron Afon's community mutual model, building effective relationships with customers, carers, colleagues, and partner organisations.
Working collaboratively across services and agencies to provide timely, high-quality support, responding to referrals within agreed timescales and operating within relevant legislation, policies, and best practice guidance.
Carrying out holistic assessments of customers' needs, applying eligibility criteria and developing appropriate intervention plans that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes. Recommend and provide solutions to overcome environmental barriers, support housing assessments and reports, and offer advice and support to carers.
You will assist Occupational Therapists as required, contribute positively to team effectiveness, and work confidently both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Maintain accurate records and complete all occupational therapy documentation in line with service standards, data protection requirements, and organisational policies. Participate in supervision, training, team meetings, and continuous professional development to enhance skills and service delivery.
Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and understanding
- Trusted Assessor: Assessing and Adapting the Home (Level 4) Or commitment to work to work towards level 4 qualification
- Have a good standard of education, including English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent.
- Experience/knowledge of supporting and helping people with disabilities
- Awareness of the OT process and how this is implemented, with a commitment to further development understanding
- Understand and apply relevant legislation that directs/impacts Occupational Therapy
- Awareness/understanding of typical occupational therapy aids and adaptations
- Understanding of the need to operate within budget constraints and use resources effectively
Experience
- Experience of working within a community setting
- Experience of undertaking assessment of need in relation to the provision of equipment and/or adaptations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs, challenges and opportunities for disabled people and how to support people to maximise their independence
- Experience/knowledge of working with disabled people
- Understands responsibilities for the health, safety and well-being of themselves and others whilst in varying work locations

- Communicates effectively and clearly, developing positive working relationships with customers, families, carers, colleagues and agencies
- Demonstrates good IT skills and ability to use electronic databases for record keeping
- Produces clear, concise reports, accurate recording of actions when assessing and interacting with individuals and their carers.
- Has good time management and organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively whilst meeting targets/deadlines

Additional Requirements
- Ability to work flexibly including occasional evenings and weekends
- Car driver/owner or ability to travel effectively and in timely fashion throughout Torfaen
- Desirable requirement to speak Welsh
DBS
The successful candidate will need a Standard DBS check which we will arrange for you.
Work4 pilot
We are currently running pilot of working a 4-day week (4DW). This is extended until end of October 2026. The pilot will then be reviewed by our board, before making a decision to extend or be made permanent.
