Ocean Export Operator (Temporary : Potential Permanent Opportunity)

Job Title: Ocean Export Operator Location: Coventry, CV2 Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm (with a 1-hour lunch break) Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 1 day per week worked from home Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (with potential to become permanent)


About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Ocean Export Operator to join their busy Freight Forwarding team based in Coventry. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid ocean export experience, available to start quickly and open to long-term career growth in a globally recognised logistics organisation.


Key Responsibilities

Working within a fast-paced freight forwarding environment, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing ocean export shipments from initial booking through to vessel departure, ensuring efficient movement and exceptional customer service.
  • Liaising with customers to obtain shipping instructions and required export documentation.

Core Duties Include:

  • Arranging bookings with shipping lines and transport providers.
  • Co-ordinating cargo collections and ensuring shipments meet all closing deadlines.
  • Preparing and validating documents, including:
    • Bills of Lading
    • Commercial invoices
    • Packing lists
  • Completing export customs declarations accurately and within deadlines.
  • Monitoring shipments and proactively communicating any delays or issues to customers.
  • Liaising with:
    • Overseas offices
    • Shipping lines
    • Carriers
    • Customers, throughout the entire shipment lifecycle.
  • Raising supplier invoices, finalising customer billing, and ensuring:
    • Operational files are accurate and processed within KPIs.
  • Ensuring compliance with:
    • HMRC regulations
    • Customs requirements
    • Dangerous Goods legislation (where applicable)
    • Company procedures
  • Supporting operational improvements by identifying:
    • Efficiencies
    • Customer service enhancements

Key Requirements

  • Essential: Previous experience in Ocean Export Freight Forwarding is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • International export shipping procedures
    • Government customs requirements
  • Effective communication & customer service skills, with the ability to:
    • Handle disciplinary or high-pressure situations.
  • Organisation expertise with the ability to manage:
    • Multiple shipments simultaneously
  • Attention to detail focusing on accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using:
    • CargoWise or Freight Forwarding software.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Incoterms®
    • Letter of Credit processes.
  • An awareness of Dangerous Goods requirements for ocean freight.
