About The Role: Nurse Functional Assessor
As a Registered Nurse (or equivalent) working remotely (independent and assessment roles) for Maximus, your expertise in clinical assessments will help individuals navigate the challenges of disability or health conditions. You’ll work with complex cases involving physical and mental health, providing objective and fair assessments while making a tangible difference to people’s lives.
This role offers:
- A tailored training programme with ongoing support and mentorship
- The opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a dynamic environment
- Face-to-face assessment opportunities (optional)
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct telephone, video, or face-to-face assessments to understand the impact of disabilities or health conditions on daily life.
- Prepare Work Capability Assessment (WCA) reports for the DWP to help determine eligibility for benefits.
- Integrate clinical judgment, evidence-based practice, and stakeholder feedback to refine assessments for continuous improvement.
- Trained in complaints handling, offering guidance to case managers on patient cases involving Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payment (PIP) referrals and complaints escalations.
About The Prospect: PIP Policing (Complaints & Enquiries Nurse)
In addition to core assessment duties, this role includes:
- PIP-driven investigations—cloud-based analysis of customer communications (calls, complaints, emails).
- Nursing insight into fraudulent or unreasonable claims.
- Complex case management with welfare rights officers to achieve fair regulatory outcomes.
- Contributes to professional development by shaping better practices through formal feedback and business support.

Person Specifications
Essential Requirements
Must hold:
- Full and up-to-date NMC registration.
- Minimum 1 year of broad adult or mental health experience (within or outside the NHS).
- Valid legal right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).
Desirable
Experience working with:
- Vulnerable adults in community or residential settings.
- Health assessments (particularly involving chronic pain, complex disabilities, or neurological conditions).
- Internationally recognised equivalent ability for panel and face-to-face assessments (if outside the UK).
Ideal Competencies
- Up-to-date working knowledge of relevant Health assessments and the principles of equality, diversity and targeted work.
- Skilled in self-driven professional development, including best practice revaluation.
- Emotionally resilient to address patient advocacy and regulatory scepticism.
Salary and Benefits
