A Fantastic Opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist
(Eligible only to current employees of Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, Kent and Medway ICB, Medway Community Healthcare – and also open to Student and Newly Qualified Nurses)
A forward-thinking opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient Therapy Team at Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital.
About the Role
Heron Ward is a well-established Inpatient Rehabilitation and Recovery Ward serving the local community. The wards primarily provide care and therapy tailored to the older adult population, though they also cater for younger patients with long-term conditions or those recovering from major trauma.
You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including:
- Speech Therapists
- Pharmacists
- Dietitians
- Doctors & Consultants
- Nurses
- Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy colleagues

You will contribute to our high-quality Rehabilitation and Recovery Service by working closely within the multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Your role will involve:
- Assessing patients’ physical, social, and psychological needs within a hospital setting.
- Collaborating with patients, carers, family, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Formulating and implementing treatment programmes to support rehabilitation and discharge planning.
- Supervising Therapy Assistants, supporting their training where applicable.
- Providing guidance to sixth-level student Occupational Therapists, if required.
- Be championing empowerment and safety to enhance recovery.

Requirements
To apply, you must have:
- A degree-level qualification or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Experience in elderly care, including community, multidisciplinary work, and medical settings.
- Good clinical assessment skills, particularly with orthopaedic, rehabilitation, and falls-related conditions.
- Strong communication skills.
- A proactive and flexible approach, with adaptability to varying patient needs.
- A passion for empowering patients, carers, and families.
- Experience working within the NHS system.
