Office Lead / Studio Director : Town Planning Urban Design Landscape Architecture Environmental Planning

Location: Cardiff

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting an award-winning, employee-owned planning and design consultancy in the search for an ambitious Office Lead to establish and grow its new Cardiff studio.

This is a rare leadership opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional looking to shape the future of a growing regional office while delivering projects that create lasting environmental, social and economic benefits across Wales.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building the consultancy's presence in the Welsh market, leading a multidisciplinary team and driving business growth while maintaining the collaborative culture the practice is renowned for.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional management position. You'll have the autonomy to develop a thriving regional office, expand an already impressive client portfolio and recruit, mentor and inspire a talented team of professionals.

Working alongside senior leaders across the wider business, you'll lead the delivery of nationally significant projects spanning regeneration, renewable energy, strategic planning, placemaking, infrastructure and environmental planning.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
