We’re looking for an OHL Engineering Data Manager to join our Overhead Line team.

The OHL Engineering Data Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management, analysis, and presentation of all Overhead Line (OHL) Condition Monitoring data for National Grid Electricity Transmission. The role ensures the organisation maintains a robust and accurate understanding of OHL asset condition, enabling effective risk management, investment prioritisation, informed engineering decision-making, and long-term system resilience.

The position provides technical leadership, develops analytical standards, drives data quality, and ensures stakeholders across Operations, Asset Management, Network Engineering, and Capital Delivery receive clear, timely, and actionable insights.

What You'll Do

Provide authoritative leadership across all CM activities, ensuring consistent application of methods and alignment with national priorities. Approve, challenge and quality assure all CM analytical outputs, ensuring accuracy, traceability and defensibility for decision making. Lead complex investigations into asset deterioration, structural behaviour, emergent risks or technology performance issues, producing evidence-based recommendations. Lead the national CM delivery programme across tactical (multiyear) and operational (within year) timeframes, ensuring efficient use of resources, outage windows and inspection opportunities. Lead the introduction and scaling of new monitoring technologies, automation and AI augmented analytics. Drive continuous improvement in CM processes, data quality, workflows, and digital tools, ensuring the function remains at the forefront of industry practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
