Job Title
Consultant in Ealing East Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Service
About the Role
The Consultant will provide clinical and professional leadership to the Ealing East Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Service (CIDS), embedded within the Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS) as part of the Ealing Community Partnership (ECP). Working closely with the Ealing Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Service (SOAMHS), the role focuses on ensuring seamless, holistic care for patients presenting with dementia within the same clinic.
The Ealing East CIDS offers:
- Early assessment and treatment
- Care planning for individuals with primary dementias
- A multidisciplinary team supported by the Care Quality Commission-rated “Good” service at West London NHS Trust (Community-Based Mental Health Services for Older People)
The service integrates support with the HSE CHILS team—a specialist mental health care unit for patients in care homes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Integrated Care
- Provide clinical governance and operational leadership within the post and broader service.
- Develop and refine clinical pathways, service priorities, and evidence-based treatment models.
- Collaborate on care planning in alignment with NICE guidelines.
- Uphold compliance with legal obligations, including those under the Mental Health Act and associated codes of practice.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Promote coherent multidisciplinary teamwork, respecting diverse professional contributions.
- Support virtual and community liaison multi-agency doctors’ grand rounds based on the Integrated Care Pathway (ICP) model, fostering seamless primary/intermediate care linkages.
Education & Mentorship
- Teach, supervise, and mentor:
- Medical staff
- Professionals within CIDS teams
- Medical students
Research & Quality Improvement
- Participate in research projects, audits, and quality improvement initiatives relevant to the West London NHS Trust and ECP.
- Contribute to the research portfolio of the Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS).
Trust Participation
- Attend Trustwide Consultant and SAS meetings, along with other senior management forums.
- Support ethical reporting—ensuring compliance with procedures regarding professional conduct or competence concerns.
