Description:

WHO WE ARE

Oliver Wyman, a Marsh (NYSE: MRSH) business, is a management consulting firm driven by deep industry insight, bold innovation, and a collaborative approach that cuts through complexity to help organizations navigate their most defining transformative moments.

SUMMARY

The candidate would become part of Oliver Wyman's Finance & Risk capability, working alongside the wider Banking & Financial Services practice. You will work closely with UK, European and global partners and experts to help leading financial institutions solve their most complex strategic, financial, regulatory and transformation challenges.

Our work spans finance and risk strategy, balance sheet and capital management, liquidity and funding, end-to-end credit transformation, risk appetite, regulatory and supervisory topics, smart pricing, strategic planning, financial resource management, operating model design, and artificial intelligence and advanced analytics engagements working alongside Oliver Wyman Data and Analytics specialists.

Based in London, you will be part of a Europe-wide staffing pool with a primary focus on UK Banking and Financial Services clients, while also collaborating across Oliver Wyman's broader European and global network.

We are looking for high-calibre experienced candidates who bring a combination of consulting problem-solving, financial services expertise, quantitative judgement and client leadership. Experience in one or more relevant areas is expected; we do not expect candidates to have covered the full breadth of topics.

Typically, candidates will bring 3-8 years of relevant experience, depending on level, from strategy consulting, financial services consulting, banking, fintech, regulation, risk, finance, data and analytics or transformation roles. Fluent business English is required; additional European languages are beneficial but not required.

PRACTICE OVERVIEW

The Finance & Risk capability, alongside the Banking & Financial Services practice, is the cornerstone of Oliver Wyman's reputation as a leader in financial services strategy, finance and risk management. Our work spans the full spectrum from senior leadership agenda-setting and transformation through to more technical finance, risk, data and regulatory topics.

Recent work has included topics such as:

  • Banking strategy and corporate finance: market entry, growth, M&A, portfolio optimisation, strategic planning and financial resource management
  • Finance, risk and regulation: credit, market, operational and non-financial risk, capital, liquidity, stress testing, recovery and resolution, ICAAP/ILAAP, IFRS 9 and supervisory engagement
  • Balance sheet, capital and liquidity: strategic balance sheet management, asset/liability risk, treasury transformation, funding strategy and capital efficiency
  • Credit transformation and risk operating models: end-to-end credit transformation, risk appetite, governance, three lines of defence, decisioning and collections

  • Digital, data, analytics and technology: platform modernisation, cloud, data strategy, AI/ML, model transformation and advanced risk modelling
  • Operations, cost and transformation: target operating models, process redesign, cost transformation, strategic cost management, post-merger integration and operational resilience
  • Market infrastructure and capital markets: counterparty credit risk, derivatives, asset-backed securities and broader capital markets topics

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Experienced professionals bring us the know-how to make lasting change for our clients and our company. We are not typical ‘management’ consultants. We provide deep industry- and discipline-specific knowledge and expertise, which amplifies our impact and helps us shape the future for our clients.

Oliver Wyman is a diverse, entrepreneurial, non-competitive partnership of individuals who like to pursue new opportunities or build a unique franchise doing what they do best in a collegial, fun environment.

SENIOR CONSULTANTS have enough experience to ask the right questions, frame hypotheses and initiate research to find the answers. As a Senior Consultant, you will be shaping the problems that we work on and developing specialised expertise that others will seek out.

ASSOCIATES break down complex problems into discrete tasks, identifying the key aspects of a problem and directing the focus of junior consultants to those elements. You will effectively plan and execute analysis as well as identify the core issues in complex analyses in order to be able to craft suitable recommendations.

You’ll work side by side with clients and your project team members to move projects forward and manage small teams to get the work done. Clients and colleagues look to Associates for unique insight into the subject area which they have chosen.

YOUR ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

Clients hire Oliver Wyman for specialised expertise and distinctive problem-solving. We would like to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • 3-8 years of relevant experience, depending on level, ideally from a top-tier strategy consulting firm, financial services consulting firm, bank, building society, fintech, regulator or similar organisation
  • Experience in Banking & Financial Services, including one or more of banking, capital markets, insurance, payments, wealth management, fintech or financial market infrastructure
  • Exposure to finance, treasury, capital, liquidity, risk, regulation, credit, operating model, transformation, cost, digital, data or analytics topics
  • Hands-on experience with data, analytics, modelling or AI-enabled financial services transformation is beneficial but not required
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, including the ability to conduct or leverage sophisticated analysis to identify trends, draw conclusions and present recommendations
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adjust your style for different perspectives and seniority levels
  • Fluent business English; additional European languages are beneficial but not required
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in STEM, finance, economics, business or another analytically rigorous discipline
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organisation
  • Ability to work under pressure and willingness to travel to clients in the UK, Europe and internationally
  • Track record of delivering results in a cross-functional, high-growth and fast-paced environment
  • Curiosity, creativity and the initiative to seek out opportunities to learn new skills and apply them to clients' most important problems
  • Willingness to work fluidly and respectfully with our incredibly talented team
