On-Board Host for TransPennine Express (TPE) at York Station
Job Overview
Title: On-Board Host Employer: Rail Gourmet Location: York Station Pay Rate: £13.65 per hour plus commission Hours: Part-time (16 hours) Shift Patterns: Rotational (6am–8pm, including weekends) Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or over due to role responsibilities
About the Role
As an On-Board Host for TransPennine Express (TPE), you’ll provide premium hospitality services including:
- Serving at-seat trolley service with excellent customer experience
- Stock management, transaction handling, and realising sales targets
- Ensuring meticulous stock and financial accounting, strict adherence to hygiene and safety standards
- Supporting management initiatives and operating autonomously
This role is ideal for customer-facing professionals with hospitality, leisure, or retail background, though no prior onboard experience is required (full training provided).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding onboard passenger services on assigned TPE trains
- Assist with passenger queries and concerns across rotational shifts
- Drive sales and meeting targets independently
- Maintain stock control and financial accuracy while minimising waste
- Collaborate with management to uphold service excellence standards
- Promote positive behaviours representing the rail hospitality brand

Ideal Experience Required
- At least 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role (preferably in retail, leisure, or hospitality)
- Compassion and patience to manage varying passenger needs, including cohort groups
- Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficient communication skills—both verbal (customer-facing) and operational
- Soft skills: teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving
