Placement Year
No matter where you are on your placement year, we're still here to support you.
Now you're on placement, you’ll be busy developing career skills and discovering more about yourself.
But don’t forget about your course – there are still things you can be doing to prepare for next year.
Things To Remember While On Placement
- You’re learning new skills every day, so make a note of projects you’ve helped with, meetings you’ve attended, or designs you’ve had a hand in. It'll all enhance your CV!
- If you're an international student, you should be contacting us on a regular basis.
- Contact your Placement Tutor as soon as you can to see if you need to arrange a visit. It’s up to you to sort this out – and it all counts towards your course.
- Check your Aston University email regularly, as we’ll keep in touch with you throughout the year.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
