BlackBox is an exciting new engineering-focused YouTube channel created by the team behind the highly respected Mentour Pilot brand, in partnership with Electrify. As a sister channel within the Mentour universe, BlackBox brings the same commitment to accuracy, clarity and compelling storytelling to a broader exploration of engineering, systems and complex technologies. Building on a proven track record of engaging and educational content, the channel aims to make intricate technical subjects accessible, insightful, and captivating for a global audience.

About The Role
We're looking for an On-Screen Host to become the face of Mentour Blackbox, leading viewers through real-world engineering failures, disasters, and safety investigations. This is more than a presenting role, you will work closely with our research team to investigate events, shape the narrative, and present the findings on camera. You will help turn complex investigations into clear, engaging, and evidence-led stories without sensationalism.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, an excellent communicator, and comfortable discussing technical subjects with authority, clarity, and empathy. Above all, you'll help our audience understand not just what happened, but why it happened and what can be learned from it.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and explain real-world incidents, failures, and safety-related events using primary and secondary sources.
- Structure complex information into clear, coherent long-form narratives.
- Edit and develop scripts in close collaboration with the editorial and research team.
- Appear on camera as the explainer of the research, guiding viewers through the story with clarity and care.
- Ask the right questions and identify what truly matters in each case.
- Work with producers to refine story structure, pacing, and tone.
- Represent Mentour’s values of credibility, precision, empathy, and trust.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts when deeper technical validation is required.

Skills And Experience
- Strong research and writing skills, with experience producing long-form or investigative content.
- Experience in video journalism, documentary production, or factual storytelling.
- Proven ability to turn complex information into clear, engaging, and accurate narratives.
- Confident and natural on camera, with the ability to explain complex subjects clearly.
- Excellent editorial judgement, including handling sensitive topics with accuracy and balance.
- Ability to independently develop, structure, and present long-form stories.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with producers, editors, and researchers.
- Fluent spoken and written English (a non-native accent is absolutely welcome, provided delivery is clear and engaging).
Desirable
- A background, qualification, or strong personal interest in engineering, science, aviation, geology, physics, or other technical disciplines.
- Experience explaining complex systems, engineering concepts, scientific topics, or real-world events to a general audience.
- An interest in accident investigation, safety, human factors, risk analysis, or understanding why complex systems fail.
