On-Site Electrician
On-Site Electrician (Permanent) – HMP Leicester
About the Role
Join Amey—a global infrastructure partner supporting His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service—and play a vital role in maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient prison facilities across England and Wales.
As an On-Site Electrician in HMP Leicester, you’ll be a key part of the Facilities Management team, ensuring electrical systems across 60 prisons operate at their best. This is a security-cleared role with a commitment to health, safety, and preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including all necessary administrative tasks.
- Engage in fault-finding and problem-solving for electrical systems in a high-security environment.
- Conduct like-for-like replacements and minor electrical works in line with BS7671 standards, ensuring all inspections and tests are recorded and compliant.
- Maintain electrical systems to safeguard staff and residents, supporting broader prison security objectives.
- Assist the Responsible and Authorised Person as required.
- Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety policies, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work across all tasks.
- Support escort duties and other operational requirements.
What You’ll Bring
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- City & Guilds 2367 (Level 2 Electrical Installation) or 2357 (Level 2 Domestic Installation) qualification (or equivalent).
- BS7671 18th Edition wiring regulations certification (17th Edition considered with upskilling provided).
- Proficiency in Health & Safety requirements, especially in high-risk environments.
- Strong planned preventative maintenance knowledge and operational reliability.
- Excellent organisation, time management, and people skills to operate under pressure.
- Experience working independently, handling initiatives and working at height.
- Practical and theoretical understanding of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Basic IT skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Familiarity with fire alarms and CCTV systems (to help accelerate impact on site).
Working Conditions & Compensation
- Position: Permanent, full-time (39 hours/week).
- Hours: 1 in 3 weekends (rotating basis with a 15% basic salary allowance).
- Salary: £30,866 – £36,135 per year (depending on experience and qualifications).
- Security Clearance Required: Will be utilised, supported, and managed by Amey.
