On-Site Electrician
Electrician – HMP Durham
📍 Durham, DH1 3HU
Compensation & Terms
- Salary: £30,866 – £36,135 per year, plus 15% shift allowance + call-out pay
- Hours: 39 hours per week
- Schedule:
- Mon–Thurs: 07:30 – 16:00
- Fri: 07:30 – 15:30
- 1 in 3 weekends: 08:00 – 16:00 (with a 15% uplift)
- Call-out rota (paid separately)
About the Role
We’re seeking a qualified Electrician to join our facilities team at HMP Durham. Your work will genuinely make a difference in a secure, live environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned and reactive electrical maintenance across the establishment.
- Perform fault finding and repairs for all electrical systems.
- Carry out small works and like-for-like replacements where required.
- Ensure testing and inspection compliance with BS7671 standards.
- Maintain systems to ensure safety, compliance, and operational standards.

Requirements
Candidates must possess:
- A relevant Level 2 Electrical qualification.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification (or 17th Edition with commitment to upgrade).
- Practical experience in maintenance or facilities.
- Strong awareness of health and safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently, solve technical issues effectively.
Desirable (Bonus!):
- Prior experience with fire alarms or CCTV systems.
