On-Site Electrician

Electrician – HMP Durham

Requisition ID: 11127

Location: Durham, DH1 3HU

Salary: £30,866 – £36,135 + 15% shift allowance + call-out pay

Hours per week: 39 hours

Working Hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
  • Friday: 07:30 – 15:30
  • 1 in 3 weekends: 08:00 – 16:00 (15% uplift)
  • Call-out rota (paid separately)

About the Role

We’re seeking a qualified Electrician to join the facilities team at HMP (Her Majesty’s Prison) Durham—a secure and purposeful working environment where your expertise makes a real difference.


Your Responsibilities

  • Planned & reactive electrical maintenance
  • Fault finding and repairs across the site
  • Small-scale works and like-for-like replacements
  • Testing and inspections to BS7671 standards
  • Ensuring system safety, compliance, and operational efficiency

  • Level 2 Electrical qualification
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or 17th Edition, with commitment to upgrade)
  • Experience in maintenance or facilities management
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety protocols
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve

(Experience with fire alarms or CCTV would be advantageous.)
