Permanent Plumber – HMP Birmingham (Facilities Management)

The standard working hours are 39 hours per week, with a rota system between 8am–5pm. Weekend shifts shall be worked on a 1 in 4 basis, subject to a 15% basic salary allowance.


About the Role

We are seeking a Permanent Plumber to join our exciting Facilities Management team in supporting HMP Birmingham and the wider Ministry of Justice (MoJ). Your work will be essential in maintaining safe, efficient, and secure environments across 60 prisons in England and Wales.

The primary objectives of the role include:

  • Providing routine and non-routine maintenance for plumbing systems
  • Conducting mains water supply repairs and fault finding
  • Identifying, testing, and repairing expired or defective equipment
  • Performing inspections, water sampling, and risk assessments
  • Supporting other duties commensurate with the role

Responsibilities

  • Routine and non-routine maintenance of plumbing systems in a high-security environment.
  • Mains water supply repairs and maintenance.
  • Faultfinding to identify and rectify plumbing issues.
  • Identifying, replacing, or repairing life-expired equipment.
  • Inspections, water sampling, and conducting necessary risk assessments.
  • General maintenance tasks as deemed necessary by management.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified with a Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating, with specialised experience in plumbing maintenance.
  • Demonstrable experience in operating light plant and handling maintenance tasks within commercial environments.
  • Legionella awareness and compliance knowledge (desirable).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential for travel between facilities).
  • Experience in commercial settings (preferred).
