You will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of our store activities by providing excellent customer service, stocking shelves, processing payments, and helping maintain the store’s appearance.
As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will be constantly looking for ways to improve service in your store through on-the-job coaching and feedback. With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.
Responsibilities
As a Customer Service Assistant, your key responsibilities include:
- Serving customers with passion and pride – Knowing your customers and delivering great natural service.
- Encouraging customer feedback – Actively prompting customers to complete the ‘Have Your Say’ survey after their shopping trip.
- Multi-area support – Working across all store sections, including online order fulfilment, self-service checkouts, replenishment, vending machines, and stock routines, to meet customer needs efficiently.
- Safety and compliance –
- Adhering strictly to safeguarding policies and security procedures.
- Wearing required safety equipment when available.
- Following the ‘think 25’ policy when serving age-restricted products.
- Responding quickly to assistance calls or checkout interventions, ensuring clarity in communication with customers.
- Working with seasonal and community events – Participating in initiatives to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere for customers and employees.

- Compliance and training –
- Ensuring all received training is applied to maintain store safety, legality, and operational standards.
- Keeping yourself, colleagues, and customers safe through strict adherence to security protocols.
- Post Office support (if applicable) –
- Managing day-to-day operations for a Post Office Local branch (if assigned).
- Completing a successful Post Office background check, including financial and criminal records.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
