Customer Service Assistant – One Stop Retail (Tesco)
About the Role
We’re seeking an enthusiastic Customer Service Assistant to join our dynamic team at One Stop, a Tesco subsidiary. This role operates in a fast-paced retail environment where no two days are the same.
You’ll play a crucial part in store operations by delivering outstanding customer service, stocking shelves, processing payments, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.
At One Stop, our customers are at the core of everything we do. Your role will involve continually finding ways to improve service through:
- On-the-job coaching
- Gathering customer feedback via our ‘Have Your Say’ surveys
- Ensuring tasks align with customer needs across all store areas, including online sales, tills, replenishment, and stock management
To this end, you’ll also:
- Actively promote community and charity involvement, creating an inclusive atmosphere
- Understand store performance, your team’s shared contributions, and how individual efforts drive profitability
- Model our official values while embodying your personality—making every team member and customer feel welcome
You’ll adhere strictly to policies and safeguarding procedures, from security protocols and local Post Office operations (float/CBA-required) to accurate attendance tracking and Think 25 policy compliance for age-restricted products.
Occasionally, shift accountability may fall to you in the absence of a Shift Leader or Store Manager.
Responsibilities
Your role requires a proactive, hands-on approach across:
- Customer engagement – Providing passionate, personalised service
- Engaging customers with warmth and pride (“I know my customers”)
- Actively encouraging feedback through ‘Have Your Say’ evaluations
- Comprehensive store workload – Supporting multiple areas, including
- Processing payments
- Replenishment and stock rotation
- Self-checkout maintenance and assistance
- On-screen/mobile order management (where applicable)
- Safety and compliance
- Enforcing security procedures, including wearing necessary PPE
- Adhering to Tesco’s Think 25 policy for alcohol/age-restricted sales
- Responding swiftly to assistance calls/interventions at self-service units (explaining processes clearly)
- Store-wide contributions
- End-of-shift hygiene/appearance auditing—aisles must remain clear and clutter-free
- Organising and extending seasonal, community, and charity events
- Demonstrating substantial local store knowledge, including sales performance metrics
- Flexibility & adaptability
- Managing unexpected operational demands
- Handling complex customer interactions, including conflict resolution
- Temporary Shift Leader coverage, including closing oversight as needed
- Training adherence
- Undergoing ongoing learning and applying applicable training to retail safety, product management, and financial procedures

Additional Note: Post Office Duties (if applicable)
If your assigned store includes a Post Office Local, you’ll handle the following:
- Daily operations of the Post Office branch
- Firestore of respectful, secure handling of funds and physical assets ⚠️ To proceed with this role, you must pass:
- Financial procedures training
- A background check (Criminal & Creditreference Bureau) via Post Office protocols Failing these checks will result in a withdrawn job offer.
