Shift Leader – One Stop (Tesco)
About the Role
We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no two days are the same.
Your role will involve taking ownership of store activities, coordinating teams to deliver a clean, fully-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations. With a customer-first approach, you'll constantly explore ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching, feedback, and practical improvements.
You will:
- Ensure the store remains a safe place to work and shop
- Act as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
- Support seasonal, community, and charity events, fostering an inclusive atmosphere
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Operations
- Coordinate teams to deliver the easiest and most enjoyable shopping experience in the community
- Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions align with customer convenience, colleague well-being, and safety
- Resolve customer queries promptly, ensuring they leave with a positive experience
- Adjust service to meet individual customer needs
- Recognition & outstanding performance—celebrate colleagues providing great service
Store Management & Efficiency
- Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented at all times
- Prioritise product replenishment according to customer demand
- Maintain accurate Point of Sale (POS) and shelf-edge labelling
- Take immediate action on any overcharges and prevent reoccurrence
- Manage queues effectively to improve the shopping experience

Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities and ensure break schedules align with trade patterns
- Be the specialist in store performance, proposing practical improvements through hands-on intervention
- Respond to short-term absences/sickness by securing cover where necessary
- Assist in staffing levels, ensuring the store operates smoothly
- Conduct return-to-work interviews and manage absence in line with company policy
Post Office (Where Applicable)
- If your store includes a Post Office Local, you will handle daily operations.
- Must pass Post Office Financial & criminal disclosure checks—failure will withdraw the job offer
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain health and safety standards in store
- Follow company procedures and delegate tasks accordingly
- Coordinate with Area Manager & People Partner, escalating issues where needed
- Host internal communications, ensuring messages are actioned promptly
Requirements
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
