Shift Leader – One Stop Superstore
About the Role
We’re seeking a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. In this fast-paced retail environment, no day will be the same as you take charge of rich, vibrant, and customer-focused operations.
As a Shift Leader, you will:
- Oversee day-to-day store activities, coordinating teams to create a clean, vibrant, and customer-obsessed retail environment that exceeds expectations.
- Drive continuous improvement through coaching, mentoring, and feedback—always putting customer experience at the core.
- Monitor performance proactively, identifying and addressing operational gaps with hands-on solutions.
- Foster a safe and inclusive workplace—where both colleagues and shoppers thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Coordinate teams to ensure customers enjoy the easiest shopping trip possible in your local community.
- Open/close the store and cover duties, making decisions that prioritise customers, colleagues, and safety.
- Act as the go-to person for operational queries when the Store Manager is unavailable.
- Support community and charity events, creating an engaging and welcoming atmosphere.
- Maintain store standards in cleanliness, presentation, and organisation.
- Proactively manage customer-facing services, such as:
- Ensuring accurate pricing and addressing overcharges promptly.
- Optimising product replenishment based on customer demand.
- Managing in-store queues efficiently for a seamless shopping experience.
People Management
- Adhere to schedules, ensuring colleagues take breaks in alignment with trade patterns.
- Building relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner, escalating concerns and seeking guidance.
- Actively support absence management, including conducting Return to Work interviews for colleagues on Statutory Sick Pay (CSA) and reporting absences per company policy.
- Resolve colleague queries (or escalate to the Store Manager) while sustaining team morale.

Safety & Security
- Serve as a recognised Keyholder, responding to alarm call-outs to protect the store’s integrity.
- Monitor internal communications, ensuring staff are informed of updates and actions are taken promptly.
- Protect store assets while delivering exceptional customer service.
Post Office Duties (if applicable)
- Handle daily operations of the Post Office Local, including financial record-keeping and compliance.
- Note: A successful Post Office Financial and criminal conviction background check is mandatory for this role.

- Technical Skills: Familiarity with POS systems or retail software is advantageous.
- Time Management: Balancing priorities to meet business and customer needs.
