About the Role
We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco.
As a Shift Leader, you will be working in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.
You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.
As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly look for ways to improve service in your store through on-the-job coaching and constructive feedback.
You will have a deep understanding of how your store is performing and act as the specialist in delivering practical improvements using a hands-on approach.
With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
- Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions support the needs of customers, colleagues, and safety
- Be the key point of contact for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
- Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, fostering an inclusive atmosphere
- Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
- Prioritise the replenishment of products critical to customers
- Correct point-of-sale and shelf edge labels to reflect best practice
- Take immediate action on any overcharges and prevent recurrence
- Manage store queues proactively to deliver an excellent shopping experience
- Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities and schedule breaks efficiently around trade patterns
- Stay knowledgeable about store operations, leading practical improvements and collaborating with colleagues
- Follow company health and safety protocols, ensuring all colleagues adhere to them
- Communicate effectively with the team, keeping them informed of updates
- Identify ways to simplify operations and share insights with the Store Manager
- Put the customer first, tailoring service to meet individual needs
- Resolve customer queries promptly and leave a positive impression
- Recognise and reward colleagues providing excellent service
- Identify and address obstacles that may hinder service quality
- Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate to them when appropriate
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, covering shifts affected by short-term absences or illness
- Serve as a Keyholder, attending alarm callouts where necessary to maintain store safety and security
- Monitor internal communications, ensuring messages are acted on in good time and all colleagues are notified appropriately
- Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and operational needs, reporting staff issues to the Store Manager
- Balance time between customer service and merchandising tasks
- Support the Store Manager in managing absence, conducting return-to-work interviews for CSA colleagues, and complying with One Stop absence policies
- Build strong relations with your Area Manager & People Partner, seeking support and escalating issues as required

If this store has a Post Office Local: Your duties will also include managing day-to-day Post Office operations. This requires completion of:
- A Post Office Financial & Criminal Conviction Background Check
- Compliance with security and safeguarding standards
Failure to pass these checks could lead to withdrawal of the job offer.
