About The Role
The purpose of the Online Trade Assistant role is to support the divisional Trading Manager in maximising online sales and profitability through strategic management of product assortments and promotions, collaborating cross-functionally to align trading strategies with business goals and enhance the customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the divisional trading manager in achieving trading KPIs.
- Execute key website trading activities including overseeing product launches, proposition changes, and content updates.
- Assist in optimising the site and customer journey through regular site walks and data analysis.
- Utilise merchandising tools to enhance on-site navigation, search functionality, customer journey, taxonomy, basket-building techniques, and product placement.
- Ensure the accuracy of product data, categorisation, filtering, and metadata to drive effective SEO optimisation and website conversion.
- Aid in driving onsite promotion planning, promotions, and extended range offerings to increase sales, conversion rates, average order value (AOV), and margin.
- Collaborate with the Online Trading Manager and commercial teams to analyse opportunities and trends for improving the customer journey, range, and pricing.
- Analyse and enhance site merchandising, and produce relevant reports using tools such as Google Analytics and Power BI.
- Work effectively with marketing and design/digital experience teams to ensure website content and communication are effectively displayed and consistent.
- Foster relationships with commercial teams to support promotions, range changes, and opportunities, and report on category performance.
- Assist in delivering the promotional calendar by coordinating with traffic-driving marketing activities across various digital channels.

About You
- Strong analytical skills: Ability to analyse data, trends, and metrics to make informed decisions and drive trading strategies.
- E-commerce knowledge: Understanding of online retail principles, including merchandising, pricing, promotions, and customer journey optimisation.
- Technical proficiency: Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, content management systems (CMS), and analytical tools such as Google Analytics.
- Communication skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, present findings, and influence stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness: Understanding of market trends, competitor analysis, and customer behaviour to identify opportunities for growth.
- Attention to detail: Thoroughness in managing product data, website content, and promotional campaigns to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Problem-solving abilities: Capability to identify issues, propose solutions, and adapt strategies to overcome challenges in a dynamic online retail environment.
- Time management: Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and achieve trading objectives.
- Teamwork: Capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues from various departments, including marketing, merchandising, and IT, to achieve common goals.
- Experience: Previous experience in e-commerce, online trading, or related roles is typically beneficial, preferably with a proven track record of driving sales and profitability.
