About your team
At Centrica Energy Storage +, our mission is to store it. Our onshore and offshore teams are united in their goal, to boost the UK’s energy security and drive down bills for customers. Rough, our North Sea storage facility, currently provides half of the UK’s gas storage – enough to heat 2.4 million homes over winter. But we’re not stopping there. We’ve got our sights set on transforming it into the world's largest hydrogen storage facility and creating a Net Zero connected energy hub in the Humber.
The Role
The role of the Onshore Operations Technician is to operate and monitor process plant and associated systems at the Onshore Terminal to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient gas storage and production operations. Control Room & Field Interface
- Work under direction of the Control Room Operator (CRO) to carry out operational tasks safely and efficiently
- Perform field-based activities including valve line-ups, equipment checks, and plant interventions
- Provide real-time feedback to the CRO on plant condition and operational status
Monitoring & Control
- Monitor plant performance via DCS systems and field observations
- Respond to alarms and abnormal operating conditions in line with procedures
- Support remote asset monitoring activities (e.g. NUI or offshore interface where applicable)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
