Data Engineer (Python & Cloud)

Location: Onsite, Birmingham, UK Company: Global Tech Advisors (Global Tech Advisors to a Global Investment Bank)


Job Summary

Global Tech Advisors is hiring a Data Engineer to join a data engineering team supporting audit analytics and automation for a leading global investment bank. You will design and build scalable, secure, and auditable cloud data platforms, pipelines, and APIs that enable traceable delivery in a regulated environment.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role requiring:

  • Strong technical credibility

Key Responsibilities

Design & Build

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and workflows for audit data ingestion, transformation, and reporting
  • Build and deploy cloud-native data applications supporting audit analytics, monitoring, and insight generation

APIs & Integration

  • Develop and maintain robust RESTful APIs for data access, integration, and audit tooling

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with audit stakeholders to translate requirements into clear technical designs and deliverables

Compliance & Security

  • Implement data quality, validation, logging, and error handling aligned with controls and compliance expectations
  • Ensure security, governance, and regulatory requirements are met, including traceability and auditability

Processing & Automation

  • Build and support batch and real-time data processing architectures as required
  • Contribute to automation of audit processes through data engineering and analytics enablement
  • Collaborate with IT, risk, and compliance teams on data-related initiatives and delivery alignment

Required Skills & Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Technical Proficiencies

  • Strong, hands-on Python experience for building production-grade data solutions
  • Experience in:
    • Data pipelines using Airflow, Prefect, or similar orchestration frameworks
    • RESTful APIs (FastAPI, Flask, Django)
    • Data processing libraries: Pandas, PySpark, NumPy
    • SQL (relational/NoSQL databases)
  • Knowledge of cloud security concepts (IAM, secure networking principles)
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) for deploying data applications

Soft Skills & Work Practices

  • Clear, organized approach with structured documentation and traceable delivery
  • Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver under pressure while maintaining code quality

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Advanced Technical Expertise

  • Experience with data governance, lineage, and controls in audit-conscious or regulated environments
  • Containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Serverless architectures and cloud-native data services (data lakes, warehouses)
  • DevOps and CI/CD practices

Financial/Industry-Specific Experience

  • Big data tooling (Spark, Hadoop) or ML pipeline integration
  • Modernizing legacy data platforms
  • On-premise to cloud migration for data pipelines
  • Finance/Investment Banking experience, particularly in risk, controls, or audit data initiatives

Working Style & Stakeholders

  • Onsite delivery in Birmingham with collaboration across audit, technology, risk, compliance, and IT teams.
  • High-accountability environment where deliveries are time-sensitive and code quality is critical.
